If a dog was raised on a farm, ment to be eatened, and was not raised to be a pet, would you eat it?

no way - bleeee...

Post 3 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Monday, 20-Feb-2006 18:27:33

Sure, I'd love to try dog at least once. I don't see anything wrong in eating it, it's only because we love them so much that people think it wrong.

Agreed BB, I'd never eat a dog. Thats horrible! This is why I don't eat Deer or Rabbit.

Post 8 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Tuesday, 21-Feb-2006 8:41:49

Never. Maybe if I didn't know, someone might be able to trick me into it if they never told me, but I would never intentionally eat neither dog nor cat. And although I haven't tried rabbit yet, I wouldn't intentionally eat rabbit.

Dog, sure, deep fried with enough ketschup and I'd be happy as a pig, except I'm not sure if pigs eat dog ;) heck it's a "dog eat dog" world isn't it.
Call me cold hearted but I do not care if the animal is fluffy or not, if the meat tastes good and I didn't know the animal at all I will have no issues eating it, we eat lamb (very cute and lovable animals) little birds etc, why would do g be any different.
(of course that being said I am certainly not against dogs and would never want one killed or put down but once the animal is in portion sizes, give me a knife and fork and let me try it out). ;)
cheers

While I think the presentation of this question could have been better executed, the points remain valid. Assuming that dogs or cats, or any other domstic animal which we have in general grown attached to, were bred and raised solely for the purposes of human consumption, I would try it also.

As I've said before: There is little difference between a dog, a pig, a chicken, or any other meat bearing animal. Why would it be so disgusting to partake of these animals?

Granted we wouldn't consider eating our neighbor's pet German Shepherd, nor our own pet Fido, there would be little reason not to take part in the consumption of one that's been bred specially for the purpose. After all, as has been pointed out before, Pot-Belly Pigs are considered as pets by many a people, and yet they still enjoy bacon, ham, etc.

Which brings me to the point: If we were to kill a dog and serve it, and the authorities and powers that be were to find out about it, we'd probably get either fined or placed in jail (at least in the States). Why is this so? What gives a dog or cat any greater right than a pig? We continually fine people for animal cruelty to dogs, cats, and various other animals with affectionate bonds, yet is it not cruelty to kill a pig for dinner? I assure you that the pig would say it is.

I think such regulations should be abolished. And while I don't approve of someone lashing, beating, and otherwise abusing their animals, if someone slaughters an animal for nutritional purposes, there should not be any crime associated in it.

Dogs, cats, parrots, chickens: They all equate to one thing: Meat. None should be granted any more special treatment than another (excepting where their species is endangered, of course).

Cow, deer, pig, rabbit, cat, chicken, what's the difference?

Whilst I don't see any harm in eating dog if it is raised for the purpose, in much the same way as I'd eat chicken or beef, I personally couldn't eat dog. Probably just because I am so attached to my own dog. Its a personal choice really on my part, much the same as I have never tried crab after seeing my father hold one down with a stick in boiling water. I know this is a very hippocritical way of eating meat, but its my way!

I would not choose to eat dog. no thanks. Although it is common practice in korea among other places. I'd feel guilty because I like dogs.

Post 17 by PorkInCider (Wind assisted.) on Thursday, 16-Mar-2006 10:00:10

What a stupid reason. I was partly braught up on a farm, I liked the cows and chickens we had, but we ate them, a fresh home grown and killed chicken every sunday. Yes I love my dog, and wouldn't eat her, if I was offered dog that was reared in the same way as the animals on the family farm, then sure. serve it up.

Post 18 by bozmagic (The rottie's your best friend if you want him/her to be, lol.) on Thursday, 16-Mar-2006 16:32:00

Why would anyone want to eat dog, cat or any other domestic pet when there's so many alternative meats to choose from?

Post 19 by wahaha (Zone BBS Addict) on Friday, 07-Apr-2006 14:39:28

I don't know...I've gone back and forth on this, I've been at the table a number of times when dog has been served and always tried to avoid it. I guess my thinking is too "western" to actually try it.

After reading this message board, I think I'll switch over to a vegetarian diet starting next year. Just the thought of eating a dog is very repugnant to me. You couldn't pay me a million dollars to do that.
